I Don't Understand It!

Derrell Starling, Tularosa, New Mexico

One can hardly pick up a copy of a religious publication of the brethren without seeing preachers asking for financial support to enable them to proclaim the truth in areas where New Testament Christianity is little known. Many of these preachers never obtain the desired assistance for such endeavors. One of the major reasons they do not is the gross misuse of the Lord's money in the field of benevolence.

It has been proven time and time again that the brotherhood concept of caring for orphans necessitates a greater financial expenditure than the scriptural method. It seems to me that if some of these "high powered" brotherhood organizers would spend just half as much time encouraging individuals to adopt orphans and local churches as such to care for their benevolent work as they spend on their brotherhood projects, they would be doing the church of the Lord a great service. The preaching of the gospel is suffering because of the confused values of many brethren and the spread of truth can be greatly aided if such brethren would encourage the churches to do their benevolent work scripturally. Large amounts (and that's putting it mildly) of money could be thus freed for sending gospel preachers into virgin areas. Why grown men that are gospel preachers and prominent among the churches will encourage the misuse of the Lord's money in any way is beyond me! I don't understand it!
