Nicodemus Seemed Confused On Baptism!

W. Arthur Moody

Nicodemus marveled and did not altogether believe Jesus who told him, "Except a man be born of water and of the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God." John 3:1-13.

Like so many religious people who fight off the Lord's idea of baptism, Nicodemus asked "How can a man be born when he is old?" and "How can these things be?"

Jesus explained that that born of the flesh is flesh and that born of the Spirit is spirit. This being born of water and the Spirit is a spiritual birth that occurs at the time of baptism.

It was difficult for Nicodemus to accept the teaching, perhaps, because he was a ruler of the Jews. Still, he did believe in Jesus as a worker of miracles and as a teacher come from God.

Many believe in Jesus as did Nicodemus. Why do such people stumble at the Lord's command to become a new creature, created in Christ Jesus unto good works? II Corinthians 5:17, Ephesians 2:10. Why do they hesitate before being baptized and raised to walk in "newness" of life? Romans 6:4.

But you do not need to be confused as Nicodemus appeared to be! You can read over the word of the Lord, meditate on it a little while and obey it today!
