"Truth In Love"

Editorial

For more than fifteen years the magazine "Truth In Love" has been going into thousands of homes all over the nation, bearing the message of salvation. Its name signifies its mission and its spirit. The things carried on its pages are the truth of the gospel, that and nothing more; the spirit and attitude of its writers is indicated by the second half of the title, 'in love." With compassion and conviction the men who have given their time and their talent to this journal through these eventful years have sought to bring the message of Christ to men and women.

For more than eleven years a similar journal, "Ancient Landmarks" has been carrying the same gospel story into still other thousands of homes, from one end of the nation to the other, and into many, many foreign nations. The former journal was published in Alabama, the latter in Texas. The former has had several men through the years to serve as editor — Jack Meyer, Gus Nichols, James Tolle, Anthony Emmons, James D. Adams, Charles M. Campbell, and perhaps others whose names elude our memory; the latter has had only two editors through her eleven years, Roy. E. Cogdill and this writer.

We are happy to announce that "Truth In Love" has been transferred to new ownership and management, Brother Marion Davis finding the increasing problems of publication in the midst of rising prices and growing difficulties in printing, together with other responsibilities of his song-book business, too heavy a burden. Henceforth the paper will he published from Lufkin, Texas, and Brother Cogdill and this writer will have the job of getting it in the mails each month.

Because of the great price increase that has taken place in the field of printing generally, and because of our desire to improve the quality of paper on which "Truth In Love" is printed, an increase in the price to our subscribers becomes necessary. Beginning with the October issue the price rate will be: in bundles to one address, $5.00 per hundred; single subscriptions, $1.00 per year. For those desiring it, we are going to make the same generous arrangement for "Truth In Love" subscribers that we have followed with our "Ancient Landmarks" users: we will individually address and mail the papers for an additional cost of only $1.50 per one hundred. An initial cost of 71/2 cents for each address plate will get the paper started; and we take care of whatever changes of address may occur without charge.

"Ancient Landmarks" has had a long and worthy life under that title. She has been used by scores of churches through the eleven years of her existence; some of them have found the paper so very productive of good results that they have continued with us right from the first. It is probable that in time the two journals will be merged, although that has not been done as yet. There are certain technical problems connected with such a merger which have yet to be resolved. But when, and if, we do merge, both papers will be published under the name of "Truth In Love." Subscribers to "Ancient Landmarks" might make note of the fact, and if you should fail some month to receive your copy of "Ancient Landmarks" but should receive "Truth In Love" instead, you will know that we have worked out the problems, and that your paper, under the new name, will continue to come to you regularly. Subscription price will remain unchanged on "Ancient Landmarks."

Brother Davis and the faithful brethren who have worked with him in the publication of "Truth In Love" have blessed thousands of readers through the years with this fine little journal. Standing forthrightly for the truth of the gospel, the journal has carried articles of high merit and enduring value. The gospel plan of salvation has been emphasized in every issue; sinners have been pointed to the Christ; the church in her beauty and holiness has been so clearly identified that sincere seekers after salvation could not go astray.

We hope to continue this same fine quality of work. Indeed, many of the men who have contributed to "Truth In Love" through the years will be writing as usual, sending their articles to us in Lufkin rather than to Alabama. Brother Charles M. Campbell of Louisville, Kentucky, has served as editor of "Truth In Love," presenting material that is judged first always as to its harmony with the Scriptures. Literary merit or facility of writing has carried no weight with him if the article did not have the ring of the ancient gospel. That is as it should be always. It is our sincere desire, and certainly will be the desire of all our readers that Brother Campbell's own writings be increased rather than diminished by the change in management of the paper.

Meanwhile, we urge both congregations and individuals to write us for the full particulars of our unique individual mailing plan. Do you have a friend who is not a Christian, to whom you would like to send "Truth In Love?" Does the congregation where you worship have any regular, consistent plan for sending gospel literature such as this each month into the homes of scores, or hundreds, of non-Christians in the community? This is a kind of work that has proved its effectiveness. We will be happy to write you the detailed particulars. Address your letter to "Truth In Love," Box 980, Lufkin, Texas.
