They Were Approved Of God

Oliver Watts, Craig, Colorado

Our brother Charles L. Heron wrote the splendid article published in the January 8th Gospel Guardian entitled "Why I Am A Member of the Church of Christ." He is correct in stating that Christians with God's approval now simply sing without using instruments of music. It is too bad that the otherwise excellent article is marred with an error as concerns historical fact.

It is stated: "There is a remote possibility that one might find an Old Testament passage which seems to indicate that David and others used such (instruments) but no scripture endorsing their use can be found." We have heard preaching brethren state that David's use of the various mechanical instruments never had the approval of the Lord.

So that we might be spared the embarrassment of having the enemies of the truth point out the following to the detriment of the cause of Christ, we quote the following scripture without comment: "And he (Hezekiah) set the Levites in the house of Jehovah with cymbals, with psalteries, and with harps, according to the commandment of David, and of Gad the king's seer, and Nathan the prophet; for the commandment was of Jehovah by his prophets." (2 Chronicles 29:25)
