A Simple Study Of "Herald Of Truth"

C. D. Crouch

Some months ago I suggested that if the Herald of Truth set-up is scriptural, I thought it would be a good idea for its supporters to go to work on the United Christian Missionary Society to bring that institution into line.

The United Christian Missionary Society is a Corporate body composed of men and women who are supposed to be dedicated to the work of spreading the gospel of Christ throughout the world. I suppose the supporters of Herald of Truth Broadcasting Society would not agree that the Missionary Society is strictly scriptural.

But the men and women of the United Christian Missionary Society could form themselves into a church. A blueprint for this could be obtained from a church in Nashville, Tennessee. The Corporation of the Missionary Society could be scrapped. And the church thus formed of and by the individuals now composing the Missionary Society, could take over all the activities of the Society, as a church.

If the Herald of Truth is scriptural, why would not the church, thus formed of the men and women of the Missionary Society, be scriptural? And if the Herald of Truth can receive funds from a thousand churches to carry on its operations, why could not the church thus formed of the men and women who constitute the Missionary Society, receive funds from any number of churches to carry on its missionary activities?

It could be argued that the new church is composed of dedicated members — members who are experienced in the ways and means of missionary work. It could be argued that they are experienced in such work and much more so than some churches who have had little or no experience along that line.

I think the chief difficulty in bringing about the above suggested change in the United Christian Missionary Society, would be, that after going through the formality of such a change, it would still be a missionary society!

I think those who constitute the Society today would not be inclined to go through with such a hypocritical pretense.

It looks to me like the supporters of the Herald of Truth could also see the hypocrisy of their claim that it is not a society.
