New Church Meeting In Lometa, Texas

Bob Craig, Bridge City, Texas

In years past and gone the church in Lometa, Texas was known as a good, sound church, that would stand for strong preaching and against all error, within or without the church. Such men as Foy E. Wallace, Jr., Luther Blackmon, Homer Hailey, Roy E. Cogdill, W. L. Wharton, Bob Bolton, and a host of others, were the ones they called on to assist them in the preaching of the gospel. I worked with them for three years and during that time fought denominational error on the radio and in the pulpit, exposed sin, and denounced the digressive movements of the brethren. But a minority group (composed mostly of the young deacons) arose who loved not the truth and was forced to move on. They would not allow a sound man in the pulpit from that time even until the present. Liberalism gained ground rapidly and men who respected the word were criticized, ostracized, and finally withdrawn from by ungodly men who had no morals at all. A small but faithful group began meeting in one of the member's houses, about three months ago. They have now purchased property on the main highway through town (U.S. 183). This property consists of four lots on which is a nice residence. The brethren have torn out some petitions and converted the residence into a small but respectable meeting house, and near fifty were in attendance for services last Lord's Day (October 15). They have, without begging for outside help, paid for their property, purchased new pews, song books, communion service, etc. The church of our Lord once again exists in Lometa, Texas, and shall henceforth be known as the Southside church. When travelling from Austin to Abilene, or other points in that direction, notice their sign on highway 183 in Lometa and stop and worship with a group of people who fear the Lord and trust in his promises.
